Carceral Ableism

Connecting Freedom Struggles

  Enroll in Course

This workshop will illuminate the inextricable links between prisons, jails, psych institutions, group “homes”, nursing facilities, institutions, congregate settings, and other sites of confinement. Through expanding our understanding of ableism as rooted in capitalism, eugenics, and anti-blackness, we will uncover a history/presence of violence towards Disabled people. We will also lift Disability Justice as a vital contributor to the abolition of police and prisons, and a path to creating the conditions necessary for all of us to live free of confinement with the care we deserve.

This workshop is a fundraiser to honor the life of Imani Fecu:

Imani died from a complicit, racist, patriarchal mental health "care" system that didn’t take her seriously - two months before her 25th birthday. Jennifer (Imani's mother) is now working to build Imani's Safe House: a program to help Black youth whose parents are incarcerated to find support, love, and understanding.
